StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty - Review
It had been a long time since the first great game hit our stores, and now, finally at last, Starcraft 2 has descended upon us. With Blizzard putting an insane amount of effort and expertise to make this game just as magical as the first, it surely did live up to its ancestor. Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty takes place some years after the original, with the universe under a new kind of threat each race must show strategic prowess on the battlefield in order to survive and reign supreme.
Starcraft 2 delivers a whole new variety of units and buildings, and with that comes new tactics in order to achieve victory. The three races have been buffed and with years of technologic break through, have come to kick some serious butt in this war torn universe. Terran are human colonists, who deliver high quality siege equipment, and offers a well-rounded defence. The mighty and cunning Protoss sacrifice quantity for quality, with expensive powerful units to crush their enemies. Zerg rush! Yes you guessed it; the third is the swarms of the Zerg, they are able to create cheap but enormous hordes of Zerglings to overwhelm their opponents. The campaign delivers an in depth story with a kind of rpg element to it, different to the original. Unfortunately, you are only able to play the Terran because of Blizzards choice to break each campaign into different expansions. But don’t fear! The Wings of Liberty Campaign offers a really enjoyable story with stunning cinematics and a diverse range of different types of missions.
Battle.net delivers a more progressive ladder with different leagues ranging from Bronze to Diamond. Being competitive can be a bit challenging for the average player, with this game holding worldwide tournaments with professional and dedicated players battling it out to become champions. However, Starcraft 2 has an inbuilt system that pits you against opponents that are relatively around your skill level. After playing a few placement matches in either 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4, the system will find you players that are more suited towards your skill level. The visuals of Starcraft 2 are fantastic and breathtaking. The models look insanely detailed with the environments doing so much justice to this masterpiece. Decals and map design have been developed insanely well, with a ton of diversity of scenery between different locations. Cinematics are magnificent, with such finesse and perfection all put into one formula to create memorable scenes created by the dedicated team from Blizzard Entertainment. Starcraft 2 offers a decent soundtrack, although didn't seem to hit me like the original. Voices for the different characters are very well done, with funny remarks if clicking a unit too many times, or a simple command order given with a touch of humor.
Honestly, any strategy game geeks out there must definitely check out this game, trust me, you will not be disappointed. |
