Starwars Battlefront 2 - Review
Do you have what it takes to become the ultimate Jedi? Do you believe you have what it takes to battle it out as a clone trooper on the frontlines? If so, then this will deliver. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a third person shooter that lets you take control of a soldier, or a Jedi in the Star Wars Universe. As you play this game more and more it seems to get that little more addicting as you progress. Star Wars Battlefront 2 gives you the same atmosphere as the first classic but doesn't introduce anything terribly new. It does however bring you into different time periods of the Star Wars Universe, like the famous clone wars.
The gameplay is solid and the fact that you get to fight it out on a planet that you know from the Star Wars Universe or one that you only just found out about through this game makes it that much more enjoyable to play on more planets and experience what beautiful scenery they have to offer. The controls are basically third person shooter standards, but can be changed to a first person if you wish. Each team, whether it be the Clone Troopers, Trade Federation, or any of the other great sides to pick from, all have their own classes that are, well, basically the same as everyone else’s. There are a few exceptions with special units like droidekas and such, but are all based on a standard picking of military units. But it does balance the teams a lot more evenly and still however gives them a unique experience with different special units. Another cool addition is the fact that you can play Jedi’s and heroes if you achieve a high enough kill score, although, as fun as it sounds, it isn’t the most spectacular experience the game has to offer. With single player being what I had played and enjoyed the most in this game, there was no way I could forget about touching up on the enjoyable campaign given. The story lets you play in the clone wars, with the Trade Federation and Confederacy still a major threat in the galaxy. With the help of you and your clone troopers of a heroic battalion you embark on planets and capture objectives to drive the terror back. As you progress, you slowly unravel the story of the Rise of the Empire and watch Anakin Skywalker turn into the dark lord Darth Vader. There is also a really nice game mode called Space Battle, where you can pilot a Star Wars battleship with one simple objective, destroy the enemies freighter. This is an enjoyable game and does offer a diverse experience that’s a lot different to other third person shooters.
Multiplayer brings you a cool experience, but it didn’t really tickle my fancy too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to duke it out with players in the snows of Hoth, and it will deliver an addictive thirst to play more that will keep you satisfied. I just think the storyline brought me into loving the single player just that little bit more. Star Wars Battlefront 2 possesses some really nice and beautiful sceneries, ranging from a planet covered in plants, to the arid desert of tatooine. No matter the location, it’s all pretty well polished for battlefront game standards. The textures aren’t the most spectacular but are still fairly decent.
The music and sound effects stay true to the classic Star Wars movies, with flawless soundtracks playing in the background as you fight your way through a galactic battlefield. Sound effects like the blaster rifles filling in the air with chaos and the voices of soldiers giving out commands makes it that much more special. Star Wars Battlefront 2 will truly let you feel as if you are shaping and fighting your way through the galactic carnage of the universe and is a must play for Star Wars fans everywhere. There are some flaws and bugs that pop up from time to time, and combat can seem a little static and straight forward, although it doesn’t take much magic away from this game in terms of gameplay. So come on Star Wars fans, if you haven’t played it I advise you to put on whatever clothes you have laying around and push forward to your local game shop! |
