Age of Empires 3 - Review
I have always been an Age of Empires fan right from the beginning. With pretty much every gamer knowing about the classic title, it's on very rare occasion that Age of Empires is not known to someone. From the early Age of Empires days, through to the release of Age of Mythology, the title has never disappointed. With Age of Empires 3, it doesn't exactly give the same feel as its predecessors, but still delivers a fairly enjoyable game. Now, that doesn't mean I hate it, I just believe it doesn't give the same magic as the first releases did ever so well.
The campaign is insanely fleshed out with many different story-lines that branch through a family bloodline. I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t talk much about the details of the games story, but I will however tell you it is totally worth playing. There are many different units, ranging from late medieval units, to the techno-logic advance of the industrial age. Set in more modern times then the last, it offers gunpowder units, new and unique siege weapons, and powerful battleships to conquer the sea. If you’re indeed a fan of the title, you will be right at home with the controls and basics of what to do and how to go about it. There are some additions introduced in the new gameplay, with the introduction of treasures and explorers, it adds a really unique and diverse experience. Resources are also gathered automatically without having the villagers travel back to drop off the supplies in order for the resources to be collected.
Multiplayer offers some challenging and diverse tactics to be played in order to rain supreme in certain situations. Also, with more powerful and dominant warships, come more competition and drive to conquer the seas. Gunplay and Artillery also offers a really cool and different way of going about sieging enemies bases and cutting down opponents infantry. The game has wonderful scenery to offer and delivers very detailed and in depth environments. The water looks absolutely beautiful and flows very fluently. Game models have been well made but don’t offer the most diverse textures unfortunately. Although the lack of texture details doesn’t really wreck the game very much, it still just lives up to its title through gameplay and features.
The sounds and soundtrack don’t stand out to be memorable or insanely in depth, but does offer fun gameplay and sets the mood in certain situations when necessary. With a few bugs and glitches here and there, and some of the voices repeating themselves at times, it still doesn’t overly hurt the game in the slightest. Age of Empires 3 does deliver an exciting experience, but unfortunately, didn’t offer the same magic that it had delivered as its previous titles. Because of the historical releases of the previous titles and being some of the first big strategy games to hit the stores, it still lives up to their names in its own way. |
