Empire Total War - Review
Empire Total war delivers the experience of warfare in the 18th century with such finesse and jaw dropping awe. If you’re like me and love the view of thousands upon thousands of soldiers being commanded across the battlefield, with artillery pounding craters and smoke thick in the air, then this game will not disappoint. Empire focuses on strategy and tactics and embraces you with the same addictive and moreish attitude of previous total war titles.
Ranging from land battles to conquests at sea, each mode will keep you satisfied for a long, long time. Land battles are easily the more impressive of the two, with large maps and battalions of soldiers duking it out. If you have played any of the previous total wars in the past then this game will be a lot easier to pick up compared to newcomers. If so, and you’re fairly new to the total war genre, then I suggest playing through the tutorials. Sea battles however will be new to experience and inexperienced players and is fairly difficult at first to pick up. But once achieved, you will have yourself blasting away enemy ships, or watching yours sink to the watery depths. With total war, successful strategies are easier said than done, with the moral of your troops depleting when flanked, or units becoming shaken when artillery explode around them, attempting to send them to their demise. With such realistic elements, it really does give a unique experience to gamers all round. In single player, Empire's Campaign allows you to create and manage cities and towns, with the addition of farms and factories being separate from the main cities. Just like its ancestors, you are able to choose a faction, battle it out, manage your resources, and make sure your diplomatic efforts provide you with positive repercussions instead of war when not needed. Empire Total War also introduces the "Road to Independence" storyline, following through with the events of the United States fighting their way for independence, with the British not so willing. It’s really informative and gives gamers a fun history lesson at the same time.
Beautiful and executed well, the graphics of this masterpiece are stunning and deliver a magnificent breath taking experience. There are a wide variety of maps to play, and sometimes while in the midst of battle you find yourself distracted by certain textures, while your troops slowly fall with a dazed commander. The sound effects are well done, executed well, and set the tone for the battlefields of the 18th century with great a soundtrack to set the mood of war. There are some unfortunate glitches from time to time, depending on your PC’s performance with so much going on at the same time, but really doesn’t affect the game in the slightest negatively.
Empire Total War, is an amazing strategy game and a must buy for all you total war fans out there. |
