Halo 2 PC - Review
It had been a while since the first release of the heavyweight of shooters, but finally Halo 2 has arrived. With a diverse range of new things that have been introduced, it easily carries the same magic from the previous title and beyond. I remember the agonizing wait to play this game and I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed. Of course, I wasn’t. So, let us take a trip down memory lane.
Halo 2 takes place in the vast future, the 26th century. After the events of Halo: Combat Evolved the Master Chief and Cortana must warn humanity of the upcoming Covenant invasion, before it is too late. As you progress through missions, the game switches you between the Master Chief and an Elite named Thel ‘Vadam, who himself has a story you unravel as you go. The campaign offered a lot more diversity then the first. With missions delivering a satisfying challenge while blasting your way through covenant forces, you can still get a little carried away. Bungie seemed to have tweaked the repetitive objectives and maps from the first by giving players a whole new range of missions and things to do. Also, there are a whole new bunch of weapons, with some of the originals being tweaked. For e.g The Covenant Carbine, Marine SMG, and so much more. Even dual wielding has been added, with players being able to wreak havoc with not just one gun, but two! I personally like the addition of the Covenant Plasma Sword. I use to love seeing that in game in Halo Combat Evolved and actually attempted to try and pick it up, of course, I had no luck. Now, you have at your disposal the power sword. It’s not as powerful as the firsts for obvious reasons, but still delivers a satisfying kill. The enemy AI has been improved, with some new additions to the Covenant army, but of course, the damn hunters are still there. There have also been new vehicles added to both sides, including the new version of the warthog that totally kicks butt.
Visually, Halo 2 has been tweaked somewhat a lot in this department. With new textures and shades giving it a unique look compared to other shooters. If you thought Halo Combat Evolved looked good.. well, you've got another thing coming. With new AI designs and actually having the Covenant speak English instead of jibberish, goes a long way. I absolutely love the level designs, with every mission being nearly totally different mixing it up a bit, keeps me interested and wanting to play as I progress. The soundtrack is just as memorable as I remember it, with gun sounds being changed around a bit, and the poor UNSC pistol sounding very inferior to its first design. Although, honestly, the magic is withheld throughout the whole game and you will very rarely find yourself being bored or tired of doing any repetitive objectives. The multiplayer carries on from the first, game modes seem to be the same with a few additions. I had expected to get a whole new range of different things, but hey, I didn’t say it was no fun though. With some new game modes, like the phantom with a player being chosen to be the invisible sword bearer and strike down his foes, it delivered quite and enjoyable time. But hey, it’s enjoyable enough for me to be glued, so come on! I guarantee you will too.
If you’re like me, with the same passion as I do for this great franchise, then you will most probably love this game for every minute. With stunning new visuals and a whole bunch of new and exciting things that have been added, you shall not be disappointed. |
