Chivalry Medieval Warfare - Review
Brutality and carnage, Chivalry represents both with an R rating and violence that is represented through gameplay and sound. Chivalry places you in a medieval time period, though it is not based upon any historical events like War of the Roses, it does deliver the atmosphere and everything else that goes with a melee game based in medieval Europe.
Chivalry lets you jump right into the fray, cutting and slashing with beautifully timed hits that leave your enemies limbless, or headless. Chivalry takes a tremendous amount of skill at times, especially when in the midst of medieval warfare with other players. Chivalry is based upon Multiplayer and nothing else. There is a choice to battle against bots instead of real players, and they still offer a substantial amount of difficulty and combat prowess. Controls are based upon your mouse buttons, with left being your swinging attack, right being your block, and the middle mouse button serving as your thrust and overhand attack. Timing is everything in Chivalry and you will be punished by another player if your timing is a little off, and you will know about it. Blocking can be the hardest in the midst of battle because you must aim your mouse toward the designated target of your enemies’ weapon and block just at the time of their attacks.
There is a choice to customize your classes weapons and ammo if using a ranged weapon. Although the customizations aren’t really in depth, they can offer a good foothold over certain enemy combinations. The multiplayer of Chivalry offers a variety of game modes and assaults of enemies bases that will keep you satisfied for many hours. As you progress you gain experience and level up to obtain more weapons at your disposal. Multiplayer can have up to 32 players split up into two teams slaughtering each other to become the victorious. A game mode that really stood out for me was the objective to slay the enemies King after capturing and pillaging their fort. Beautiful and polished, the best two words to describe the environment and textures of Chivalry. The slaughtering and bloodshed among the battlefield isn’t the most wonderful sight, but offers a really good feel to what medieval warfare would have been like.
Sounds of soldiers howling in pain or dying slowly gives even the strongest of warriors chills down their spines, but gives you the dark, gritty mood of melee warfare. Chivalry is easily one of the best melee games that have been introduced and offers a diverse and ever changing experience. There were a few flaws like glitches and bugs but nothing that could jeopardise the game as a whole. Because the game is fairly new and is still developing new game modes and such, the lack of some modes doesn’t bother me. So if your into medieval warfare or even an amateur historian that enjoys gaming and is interested and curious on how brutal combat could have been, this game will quench your thirst. |
