Mount & Blade Warband - Review
Mount and Blade is truly a pioneer of melee gameplay. Mount and Blade sets you into a medieval world, giving you a diverse game experience that includes RTS, RPG, and melee combat that works very well and fluently.
You are able to choose between three game modes which include an RPG campaign, Multiplayer, or even a custom battle that you can tailor to your needs. Mount and Blade requires a great amount of skill to succeed, especially in multiplayer. Combat is based upon the movement of your mouse and the left mouse button for attacking, and the right for blocking. There are four directions you can strike and four directions you are able to block. The combat can be fast paced at times and is usually set to a real time speed in multiplayer matches. In addition to fluent combat comes an RTS element also. As you are the commander in either custom battles or campaign you are able to give a vast range of orders to your troops, including Hold Position, Form two lines, Fall back five paces and so much more. The Mount and Blade campaign has a very large RPG aspect to it, where you can pick what kind of warrior your character is, who their ancestors are, and much more. After you customize your characters appearance you are immediately thrown into the world. As you progress and are required to buy mercenaries and willing villagers to join your army they progress and get stronger with fierce weapons and armour to overthrow your enemies. Your character also gains coin and experience, levelling his attributes to become a better fighter. Buying equipment and food to feed your hungry army is a must also, with waging war and defeating rebels and such, your army grows tired and is in need of food as days go by. There are an insane amount of things to be achieved and accomplished throughout the world of Mount and Blade, even including a free roam when in a city or village. You even have the option to train one on one with a troop in your army and improve his combat skills.
Graphics of this game are very simple but don’t drag the game down even in the slightest. There are many environments and battlegrounds that seem very bland and not well decaled at all. But Bannerlord has made up for it in the very well and very fleshed out gameplay that it offers.
The orchestral soundtrack isn’t the best out there, but it’s not the worst in the business either. There a few sound effects that gets a little irritating at times with horses going nuts and soldiers making groaning sounds statically at times. Mount and Blade Warband truly offers a really great atmosphere and is a must buy for anyone interested in medieval warfare and melee combat based video games. So come on, what are you waiting for! Go and battle it out in the world of Mount and Blade. |
